Another day of travel

Outside shot of our hotel in Delhi.
Lots of noise, horns and smog.

Left for Siliguri by plane.  Had little tense moment at the airport when we went to the wrong terminal for our airline.

Made it in time and the flight was delayed 45 min so all was fine.  We had to take what John called a scooby do taxi (miniature van) and we all piled in - poor Carol was bent in half sitting in the back seat.

The flight was smooth and Siliguri was 75 and sunny.

We were met by Pastor Nandu and Anu bearing gifts!
Sam was on an earlier flight and ahead of us at the restaurant where we had lunch.

The restaurant was an oasis and Nandu ordered family style India-Asian - yum!

We then left for our 3 hour trip to Kalimpong in 3 minivans.  About 2 hours of the trip was an ascent on a winding hairpin turned 1-2 laned partially paved road.

It was a little treacherous a few times as our driver passed trucks on curves with no guard rails - on the other hand the sights were spectacular!

We arrived safely at dark about 6 pm to Kpong-a lighted city in the foothills of the Himalayas.  Looking forward to sunrise tomorrow!

Video of driving in Siliguri.

A room with a view. Our first morning in Kpong.

The distant view of the Himalayas to the Northeast in China from our room!

6:30 am Sunrise overlooking the hotel patio.

Let the Glory of the Lord - Rise Among Us!

Elgin Hotel in Kalimpong. This is our home while we are here.

1-16 - A city on hill . . . cannot be hidden.   The view from the hotel is awesome!  Today we met the 60 children of K1 & K2 & red shirt freshmen for future K3.  Had lunch at Nandu and Anu's house where K2 is currently located.  Had a great time with the kids and staff!

We traveled to Dello mountain 30 minutes to play soccer, cricket and other games since the homes have no areas to play for the kids.

I'm very impressed with the love and care that I see from Nandu, Anu and the other staff as they interact with the kids.

At dinner the AH team discussed the future expansion and funding for India.
